The Published 2026 Numbers, Exactly As The Club Prints Them

The club's fees page splits the year into two priced bands. Mid-season, which it dates as 1 April to 10 April 2026, carries a visitors green fee of 250 euro. High season, which it dates as 13 April to 9 October 2026, carries a visitor green fee of 450 euro. That is what the club prints and it is all the club prints. We do not quote a figure for the days between those two windows, or for the weeks outside them, because Tralee has not published one and we are not going to guess a number a visitor might budget against.

The gap between the bands is the single most useful thing on that page for anyone whose dates are flexible. A fourball playing on 9 April pays 1,000 euro in green fees. The same fourball playing four days later pays 1,800 euro. The course is the same course. The wind off Tralee Bay in early April is colder and the light is shorter, and for a group with a generous handicap and a tight budget that is a trade worth naming out loud rather than pretending does not exist. Rates for 2027 are not published. Use the 2026 bands for planning and confirm with the club before you treat a 2027 budget as fixed.

Hire and extras are published on the same page. A buggy is 60 euro, an electric trolley 25 euro, a pull trolley 6 euro, and hire clubs 65 euro. The buggy matters here more than the price suggests. The back nine at Barrow climbs properly, with elevated tees and a walk between greens that is longer than the card implies, and a group carrying a recent knee or hip will want to know in advance that a ride-on option exists and is priced.

The Deposit, The Balance, And The Rule Americans Miss

This is the section to read twice. The club requires a deposit of fifty per cent at the time of booking, and states plainly that it is non-refundable. Payment is by credit card or bank transfer. The balance is then payable ninety days before play, and the club's own wording is that it is payable regardless of cancellations. Read that phrase carefully, because it is doing real work. Cancelling inside ninety days does not release you from the balance. It is not a deposit forfeiture arrangement. It is a commitment to the full fee once the ninety-day line has passed.

The club also states that all reservations are confirmed in writing by email, and that cancellations or changes made by telephone do not take effect until the club receives written confirmation. In practice that means a phone call to move a tee time is the beginning of the process and not the end of it. Send the email. Keep the reply. We have seen a group assume a friendly conversation with the shop had moved their morning and arrive to find the original time still on the sheet.

Two further lines are worth quoting in your own head before you pay. Failure to keep an appointed tee time results in full forfeiture of the pre-payment, with no refunds issued. And the club will not refund for delayed or cancelled flights, travel disruption, personal injury or illness, which is why it recommends insurance in the same breath. Where the club does move is on course closure: if management deems the course unplayable, it says an alternative date will be offered, based on availability. That is a genuine weather clause and it is more than Waterville publishes, but it is an alternative date rather than money back.

Handicap Limits, Pairing, And Dress

Tralee publishes maximum handicap requirements of 36 for ladies and 28 for gentlemen. Bring the record. This is a club that applies its own rule rather than printing it for decoration, and a golfer travelling from the United States should have a current handicap record accessible on a phone rather than a number remembered from a club championship three years ago.

The club also says that single golfers and two-balls may be obliged to team up with other golfers, and that any group booking fewer than four players should expect to be paired to make a fourball. For a couple travelling together this is worth knowing before the morning rather than at the first tee. It is also, honestly, one of the better things about playing Tralee as a pair. We have been paired with members twice and both rounds were better for it.

Dress is specified rather than implied. Appropriate golf attire is required, and the club names what is not permitted: sleeveless shirts, trainers or sneakers, jogging pants and rugby shirts. The trainers line is the one that catches American visitors, because a modern spikeless golf shoe and a street sneaker look similar in a suitcase and do not look similar to a starter at Barrow. Pack proper golf shoes.

The Caddie Rates, And Why They Are Worth It Here

The club publishes a senior caddie on a single bag at 110 euro, a senior caddie on a double bag at 160 euro, a junior caddie on a single bag at 70 euro, and a forecaddie at 160 euro. Gratuities, in the club's own words, are not mandatory but are always appreciated, and should reflect the level of service you receive. The club's terms add two things: caddies should be requested in advance, there is no guarantee of availability on the day, and payment of the caddie is the sole responsibility of the golfer rather than something the club settles for you.

Tralee is one of the courses where we would argue the caddie is close to essential rather than pleasant. The back nine has blind shots over dune ridges where the correct line is not visible from the tee and is not obvious from a yardage book. More than that, the wind at Barrow rotates around a peninsula as the round unfolds, so what was downwind on the second is crosswind on the fourth. The caddies are members of the club, and their reading of which way the eleventh is playing on a given morning is information you cannot buy any other way. Request them when you book, not when you arrive.

How The Booking Works, And When To Open It

Visitor tee times at Tralee run through the club's online visitor booking system rather than through an email negotiation, which makes the mechanics simple and the timing important. You are looking at a live sheet, and the mornings in the nine-to-eleven band across May, June and September are the slots every visiting group wants for the same reason: the front nine is scorable before the afternoon wind stiffens, and the back nine is at its most photogenic in side light.

Our working rule is to open the sheet nine to twelve months out for a June or September morning, and to accept an afternoon in July and August rather than paying for a morning you will not get. Because the balance falls due ninety days before play, the honest planning sequence at Tralee runs backwards from that date. Book the accommodation. Book the flights. Book the tee time and pay the fifty per cent. Then mark the ninety-day line in your calendar, because at that point the trip stops being provisional whether or not you have thought about it since.

Where To Sleep, And Why It Changes The Round

The course is out at Barrow on the peninsula and there is no hotel at the gate, which means every version of this trip involves a short drive to the first tee. The two bases we use are Ballyseede Castle, a country-house castle hotel on the Killarney side of Tralee town, and The Rose Hotel, a straightforward modern hotel in the town itself that suits a group who want a bar, a gym and a late breakfast without ceremony.

The third option is not to base in Tralee at all. Tralee sits close enough to Ballybunion to the north and Killarney to the south that a group playing three or four Kerry courses in a week can reasonably hold two nights at one end and two at the other rather than driving out and back every day. If the week includes Ballybunion, base north for the Ballybunion and Tralee rounds and move south afterwards. If the week includes Waterville, base south for that and accept the drive up to Barrow as the day it costs you.

The Week We Would Build Around The Round

Tralee is the round that makes a Kerry golf week feel like a Kerry golf week rather than a list of courses. Give it a morning tee time, give the afternoon to the Dingle Peninsula road out to Slea Head, and give the following day to Ballybunion half an hour north. That sequence is the one we book most often and it has never disappointed a visiting group, partly because the Dingle afternoon gives the non-golfers in the party the single best day of the trip.

The arithmetic, in order, because at Tralee the order is the whole thing. Confirm the rooms. Confirm the flights. Open the visitor booking sheet nine to twelve months out and take a morning in May, June or September. Request the caddies in the same movement. Pay the fifty per cent knowing it does not come back, and put the ninety-day balance date in the calendar the same afternoon. Do that, and the only thing left uncertain is which way the wind is turning on the eleventh, which is the uncertainty you came for.
