We have long appreciated Markree Castle, where the Cooper family has always maintained the estate since the 17th century. The dining room, with its original Knight of Glin design, speaks to that enduring history; for us, it feels like a homecoming each visit.

We encourage at least two nights here. On your second morning, as the light breaks over Lough Gill, we suggest reading some Yeats at breakfast. This ritual deepens our connection to the Yeats country landscape and its quiet particularities.

This is the most underrated hotel in the northwest.
