Lahinch on a still morning

The first tee at half past seven, the Atlantic on three sides.

We awaken to the quiet hum of Lahinch before sunrise, the village still wrapped in slumber. The starter, already on his second coffee, watches the Atlantic, uncertain of its temperament for the day. This serene half-hour, when the Liscannor Bay is a mirror, is the one our regulars anticipate all year.

You should reserve an early tee time, even if it means flying in the night before. The course offers a gentler challenge before nine. By eleven, the Atlantic asserts its full power, the gorse takes on a wilder appearance, and your round becomes a sustained engagement with nature’s forces.

Afterwards, consider a meal at the Cornerstone in the village. Take a barefoot walk along the strand, then continue your journey to Doolin before dusk.
