How To Book A Tee Time At Ballyliffin Golf Club

Ballyliffin's 2026 standard visitor rates are 330 euro for Glashedy Links, 300 euro for the Old Links, and 550 euro for a two round special covering both courses in a single day. Full payment is due at booking, the refund scale shrinks fast as play day approaches, and the club's own tee sheet runs through BRS rather than an email back and forth.

A note from Deborah. Read her editorial perspective

Ballyliffin prices its visitor golf in plain terms and expects you to read them before you pay. The club's own green fees page lists a 2026 standard visitor rate of 330 euro for Glashedy Links and 300 euro for the Old Links, with a 550 euro two round special covering 36 holes on both courses in a single day. Its terms and conditions page states that full payment of green fees is required at the time of booking to secure a tee time, then sets out a sliding refund scale rather than a flat cancellation fee. None of this is unusual for a club this far from the Dublin and Kerry golf circuits, booking a long way out and holding to the terms once they are set. What is worth doing in advance is reading the refund scale, the caddie and cart rules, and the hire charges before you commit a card number, because Ballyliffin is explicit about all three and a visitor who skims the page can end up surprised later. We do not take reservations ourselves. This is a guide to what the club itself publishes and how we plan around it.

The Published 2026 Numbers, Exactly As The Club Prints Them

The club's green fees page splits visitor pricing into two categories. Domestic rates, for permanent residents of the island of Ireland holding valid Golf Ireland membership in an affiliated club, are listed as enquire for rates on all three courses rather than a published figure. Standard visitor rates, the category almost every American golfer will book under, are printed plainly: the Old Links at 300 euro for eighteen holes, Glashedy Links at 330 euro for eighteen holes, and a two round special of 550 euro for 36 holes on the same day covering both courses.

That two round figure is worth doing the arithmetic on before you book either course alone. Playing Glashedy and the Old Links separately on two different days at standard rates costs 630 euro per golfer. The same two rounds played back to back on one day, under the two round special, cost 550 euro, an 80 euro saving per person and the only way the club prices a genuine 36 hole day. If your legs and your schedule can take it, this is the better booking.

The club does not publish a rate for the nine hole Pollan Links on the same page in standard visitor terms, and it does not publish seasonal pricing bands the way some southern links do, no separate high and low season figures for the two championship courses. Treat the 330, 300 and 550 euro figures as the 2026 standard rate year round and confirm directly with the club if your dates fall outside what the page covers.

How Payment And Cancellation Actually Work

The club's terms and conditions state it plainly: full payment of green fees is required at time of booking to secure tee times, and that reservations for Open Competitions must be paid in full at time of booking as well. There is no deposit structure here the way some clubs run a fifty per cent down payment. At Ballyliffin, when you book, you pay the whole green fee.

What follows is a genuine refund scale rather than a non-refundable policy, and it rewards early cancellation. In the club's own words, in the event of cancellation at least 30 days prior to the date of play, a 75% refund will be made. Cancellation 8 to 30 days prior to play brings a refund of 50%. There is no refund for cancellations within 7 days of play or failure to cancel bookings. Bookings are non-transferrable, and the club notes any refund due to exceptional circumstances will be at the discretion of the Club Manager, with all requests for refunds required in writing to the manager at the club's own email address.

Read that scale as a planning tool, not just a warning. If a trip is still uncertain, book anyway and hold the 30 day line in mind, because cancelling before it still returns three quarters of what you paid. Wait past the 8 day mark with a change of plan and you lose the lot. We tell every group the same thing we tell ourselves: once the round is booked, treat the trip as committed from that date forward.

Caddies, Carts And Hire Charges For 2026

The club's caddies and equipment hire page prices a senior caddie at 80 euro plus gratuity and a forecaddie at 120 euro plus gratuity. Caddies must be booked in advance and are subject to availability, and the club says plainly that caddies cancelled on the day of play will be charged in full. Book a caddie the same day you book the round rather than waiting to decide at the hotel the night before.

Hire equipment is priced separately and by the round. Pull trolleys are 5 euro, electric trolleys are 25 euro, and a golf cart or buggy is 50 euro, all per round. The club's terms add that carts cancelled on the day of play are charged in full and that carts must be kept on the fairways at all times, a rule worth knowing before a group assumes it can cut a corner across the dunes on a tired back nine.

There is also a range token system rather than a free practice area, with basket pricing handled through the pro shop rather than posted on the main fees page, and two putting greens available before play. None of this is expensive by the standards of a championship links, but all of it is worth arranging in the same booking session as the tee time rather than improvising on arrival at a club this far from anywhere else.

How The Visitor Tee Sheet Works

Ballyliffin's visitor bookings run through BRS Golf, the same third party tee sheet system used by a large share of Irish clubs, rather than through a phone call or an email thread. The club's own site links directly to a BRS visitor booking page for each course, and the mechanics are the live sheet model: you see available times and book the slot that is open, rather than requesting a time and waiting on a reply.

Because the sheet is live and the club prices both courses the same way whether a round is booked six months or six days out, there is no early booking discount to chase. The advantage of booking early is availability rather than price, particularly for a morning tee time in the main June through September window when both Glashedy and the Old Links see the most visitor traffic. We open the sheet nine to twelve months ahead for a summer morning and treat anything closer than three months as a gamble on which times are left.

Confirm which course you are booking before you pay. The club runs Glashedy Links, the Old Links and the nine hole Pollan Links as three separate bookable products on the same system, and the two championship links look similar enough in a quick scroll that a distracted booking can land you on the wrong course for your trip.

Dress Code And Course Rules

The club's terms state the dress code as smart casual, and ask that attire be consistent with current accepted golf fashion. Tailored shorts and collared or mock neck shirts are acceptable. Athletic wear, particularly football shirts, are not permitted. It is a looser standard than some of the more formal Irish clubs, but it still rules out the gym kit a traveler might otherwise throw in a golf bag as a backup layer.

One rule is unambiguous and worth flagging before anyone packs their own shoes: metal spikes are not allowed on the links. Bring soft spike or spikeless golf shoes, not an older pair with metal cleats, and check a borrowed or older set of shoes before the trip rather than at the first tee.

The club also asks all golfers to check in with the golf shop before tee off, a small step that matters more at a club this remote, where the starter is coordinating a smaller number of groups across three courses and wants to know who has arrived.

Where To Sleep, And How Ballyliffin Pairs With Narin & Portnoo

Ballyliffin does not offer on site accommodation. The club's own site directs visitors to registered hotel, bed and breakfast, and guest house accommodation in the surrounding area, and the surrounding area here means Inishowen rather than a town with a wide hotel selection. Book lodging on the peninsula itself rather than assuming you can stay an hour away and make an early tee time without a long drive in the dark.

The itinerary we build most often around Ballyliffin runs it together with Narin & Portnoo, further south along the same Donegal coast. Narin & Portnoo plays over gentler linksland on a narrow headland near Portnoo, a different character of golf entirely from Glashedy's big dune country, and the two courses make a natural two stop week through Donegal without retracing ground. If you are booking both, read our guide to how to play Narin & Portnoo and the companion piece on booking a tee time there, since its own visitor system and fee structure differ from Ballyliffin's.

A Causeway Coast pairing works just as well heading east, taking in Royal Portrush and Portstewart across the border before looping back. Either direction, give Ballyliffin its own night or two rather than treating it as a day trip from somewhere else, because the drive north is long enough that doing it twice in one day defeats the purpose of coming.

The Booking Sequence We Would Follow

Start with the accommodation on the Inishowen Peninsula, because rooms here are fewer than in Donegal town or further south, and a good base near the course matters more at Ballyliffin than almost anywhere else on this itinerary. Then open the BRS visitor sheet for the course or courses you want, nine to twelve months ahead if you can manage it, and book Glashedy, the Old Links, or the 36 hole two round special depending on how much golf the trip allows.

Pay the full green fee at booking, because that is how the system works here, and mark the 30 day and 8 day lines in your own calendar the moment you book. Those two dates are the only ones that change what a cancellation costs you, 75 per cent back before 30 days, 50 per cent back between 8 and 30 days, nothing back inside a week.

Add the caddie or the cart in the same session rather than leaving it to the day, because both are cancelled-in-full if you drop them on short notice and both are worth having on a course this large. Do that, and the only thing left to plan for is the wind off Pollan Bay, which no booking system on earth can price in advance.
