An evening walk on Howth Head

Forty minutes from the city centre, and the cleanest air in Dublin.

Collected by Deborah. Read her editorial perspective

We take the DART to Howth, a swift forty-minute journey from Dublin. Departing around five on a summer evening places you on the cliff path before six, with ample daylight illuminating the bay and the incoming harbor boats below. This walk offers a refreshing escape.

An evening walk on Howth Head

Slieve League

The looped path from the village to the summit and back takes about two hours at a measured pace. Expect one short, steep ascent, but otherwise it is a gentle route following the sea. You should bring an extra layer; even in July, the wind from the headland cools quickly.

After your walk, you should dine at Aqua on the West Pier. Ask for a table by the window.
