St George's is the last of Belfast's Victorian covered markets, built in the 1890s and still doing what it was built for. Friday is the variety market, with the fish counters at their strongest. Saturday is food and craft. Sunday adds music and is the busiest. For a visitor the food hall is the reason to come: soda farls cooked on the griddle in front of you, Lough Neagh eel, Portavogie prawns, and the northern breads that are genuinely different from the ones in the south.
