Moran's has stood on the pier at Kilcolgan for more than two hundred years, and the same family has run it throughout. The oysters come out of Galway Bay, the crab claws come out of the same water, and the brown bread has not changed in living memory. It is twenty minutes south of Galway city and it is the single most reliable seafood lunch in the west. Order oysters first, crab claws second, and a pint of stout with both.

What it actually feels like.
Sit outside on the weir if the weather allows. Native oysters run September to April; the rest of the year the gigas are excellent and cheaper.

A space that justifies the journey.
Seven generations of oyster men, on the water the oysters come from. Nothing else on the west coast has that continuity, and the food has not slipped because of it.
