Mutton Lane is a passage barely wide enough for two people beside the English Market, and the pub halfway down it has been there since 1787. Inside it is small, dark and lit by candles, with barrels for tables and standing room that fills by six. It is the room Cork people take visitors to when they want to make a point about their city. Order Irish whiskey neat, stand, and go on to dinner afterwards; nobody eats here.
