The Duke of York is hidden down Commercial Court, a cobbled entry off Donegall Street strung with umbrellas and old enamel signs. Inside, the whiskey wall runs the length of the bar and covers Irish whiskey in a depth few rooms in Dublin match, including the northern distilleries that rarely travel south. It is the anchor of the Cathedral Quarter, it has live traditional music most nights, and it is the right first stop on any Belfast evening.

Ask for Bushmills bottlings you cannot buy at home, and drink outside in the entry if the evening allows. Music starts around nine.
