Adare Manor, the hour before dinner

The drawing rooms at six, when the house exhales and the guests have not yet come down.

We have found the hour to be at Adare, and it is six in the evening. Dinner is at half past seven, and the drawing rooms glow, yet remain mostly unoccupied. Hear the quiet movements of the staff as they finish tables, set out glasses, and light the final candles.

Adare Manor, the hour before dinner

Adare

Order a drink and carry it to the long room, which looks out over the estate. Observe the light recede from the river, then from the lawn, and finally from the high ceiling above you. By a quarter past seven, the room hums with hushed voices, and you will have experienced the day’s most contemplative interval.

Stay a minimum of two nights. Your first evening will orient you to the layout, and by the second, Adare Manor becomes a space you inhabit. Save that hour before dinner for the fire, the expansive window, and the stillness.
