Where to Stay
What We'd Book First
Three bookings decide this South trip. Lock these the week you confirm the open-jaw flights.
- 1.Open-jaw flights: Shannon in, Cork out. Aer Lingus runs both. The open-jaw is the unlock that makes 5 days work.
- 2.Sheen Falls Lodge, three nights, river-view room. Fills four months out for May to September.
- 3.Perryville House in Kinsale, two nights, harbour-view bow-window room. Twelve rooms total. The bow-window is the room.
Kenmare in the morning light. The Ring opens up south to west.
Ring of Kerry, Counter-Clockwise
The drive most people do backwards.

Reserve the Ring of Kerry tour →Signature Moment
→ Standing at St Finian's Bay, the Skellig Michael pyramid rising from the Atlantic, the first time you understand why pilgrims came here.

The Ireland Edit Take
Live music at Crowley's, not the hotel bar. Crowley's is the real Kenmare. Late finish, walk back to Sheen Falls in 20 minutes.
Experiences
Yesterday was Kerry's headline. Today is the peninsula that should be.
Dingle Peninsula
The other Ring. Smaller, wilder, and most people miss it.

Reserve the Dingle tour →Signature Moment
→ Slea Head at 3pm, the Blasket Islands offshore, a sheep crossing the road, the Atlantic far below.
Where You'll Eat
Where: Out of the Blue in Dingle for lunch. Oak Room at Sheen Falls for late dinner.
Order: Out of the Blue: whatever the chalkboard says. Oak Room: lamb, paired wine.
When: Out of the Blue 12:45pm. Oak Room 8:30pm.
Skip: Eating in Killarney town on the way back. Kenmare is the right ending.
What People Get Wrong
Picking the Ring of Kerry over the Dingle Peninsula. The right move is both, and Dingle is the better photo.
The Ireland Edit Take
Dick Mack's, not the Dingle Pub. Dick Mack's still has the leather-shop counter behind the bar. It's the real Dingle.

What People Get Wrong
Skipping Charles Fort. The harbour view from the star bastion is the Kinsale photo most visitors miss.
The Ireland Edit Take
Book the Cork to US flight for the next morning, not the same night. A late evening at The Spaniard, a slow morning at Perryville, and you close the trip properly.
Experiences
Experiences
Why open-jaw, not return.
A return into Shannon means a fifth day spent driving back to where you started. An open-jaw (Shannon in, Cork out) gives the fifth day to Kinsale instead. Same flight cost, twice the trip.
- Shannon arrivals are 30 minutes faster than Dublin. Smaller airport, faster immigration. You're on the M20 within an hour.
- Cork departures are 90 minutes from Kinsale. Drop the rental at Cork Airport, walk to the gate.
